Finding and renting a new apartment or any kind of home requires a lot of paperwork. There are a lot of transactions that you need to undergo, and a lot of forms and contracts that you need to fill-out and sign. You also need to comply and submit identification documents which are required for the tenancy process.

Through the initiative of the government with the cooperation of a lot of companies in Dubai, paper consumption would be reduced and be replaced with electronic transactions. This step ensures high-level security and faster processing time for all transactions being done most especially in the real estate sector.

The first phase for a fully digital and paperless property program is about to be rolled out. The program is done in partnership with Smart Dubai, which allows tenants to perform important steps online: find an apartment for rent in Dubai, signing and registration of the tenancy contract, submit maintenance requests, arrange utility services for DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority), etc. With this kind of feature, the time consumed for the rental process would be reduced and could be done through your desktop, laptop, or smart phone. That makes everything convenient!

If you wish to try the service, you could access it via DubaiNow. This platform gives residents the easy access to more than 50 government services which allows them to manage bills, register their car, trade license renewal, check the status of VISA applications, and a lot more!

The government has planned to make Dubai a fully paperless society by December 12, 2021. Since their ongoing initiative 6 government entities are 57 per cent paperless as of January 2019. Government Agencies like the Dubai Police, Dubai Land Department (DLD), Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, and Department of Economic Development (DED) massively reduced their paper consumption from 64 million to 37 million sheets.

"After 2021, no employee or customer of the Government of Dubai will need to print any paper document,” said Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, crown prince of Dubai and chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai at the launch of the Dubai Paperless Strategy.

Renting an apartment in Dubai would soon become faster than the current process we are doing right now. Thanks to the advancement of technology and the initiative of the government, we are heading towards a progressive future.
